Work in Progress: Four Futures for
New Zealand
Presented by Bob Frame
What issues may New Zealand face over the next 50 years? What capacity will we have to respond to external pressures such as increased trade barriers, climate change, Peak Oil, 'flu pandemics and the like? Researchers at Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research in Lincoln and an advisory team from Wellington, have developed four possible scenarios that will help people provide plausible (rather than predicted or preferred) answers to these questions. Bob Frame was one of the researchers developing the scenarios.
Bob is a transdisciplinary scientist based with Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research, New Zealand's 'foremost environmental research organisation'. He is now the Science Leader of the Sustainability and Society Group and his interests are in the discourse surrounding sustainability issues, especially at the strategic and policy level. He is currently working on Future Scenarios for New Zealand, sustainability assessment methods and a comparison of sustainability policy in Scotland and New Zealand.
A copy of the scenarios presented as a screenplay can be downloaded as a pdf file (3MB) from the Landcare Research site.
