Tongan Prime Minister, Hon Dr Sevele requests meeting with New Zealand Tongan community on first official visit
Hon. Dr Feleti Sevele, Tonga's Prime Minister
arrives in New Zealand on his first official visit to meet
with the Prime Minister, Helen Clark.
The Hon. Dr Sevele wishes to take this opportunity to meet with members of the Tongan community at a public meeting.
All members of the Tongan community and interested parties are welcome to attend this public meeting organised by the Tongan Advisory Council. It will be held at 7.30pm, Thursday the 18th of May, Papatoetoe Community Hall, 35 George Street, Papatoetoe.
Hon. Dr Feleti Sevele will talk about issues in Tonga and will welcome questions from the audience. It will also provide a chance for him to listen to and meet Tongans in New Zealand.
The Hon. Dr. Feleti Sevele is one of the Parliamentary representatives elected by the district of Tongatapu. He was first elected as one of nine People’s representative in 1999.
He was appointed as a Minister by the King of Tonga on the 21st of March, 2005. On the resignation of Prince Lavaka Ata Ulukalala, the Hon. Dr. Feleti Sevele was appointed as Acting Prime Minister on February 11th 2006.
This was made permanent by His Majesty King Taufa’ahu Tupou IV in the month following.
Hon Dr. Sevele has a PhD from the University of
Canterbury and considerable business experience in Tonga.
He is the first People’s Representative to be appointed
Prime Minister.
