Compassion House gets an Official Opening
The formal opening and blessing of Downtown Community Ministry's office building, Compassion House, takes place this Friday at 10am.
DCM and co tenants, the Wellington People's Resource Centre, Parent Help, Prisoners' Aid and Rehabilitation Society will be joined by His Excellency, the Governor-General, the Honourable Anand Satyanand, who will open the building.
Compassion House is owned by the Sisters of Compassion who purchased the building in early 2005 to provide secure tenancies with affordable rents to community groups in the inner city.
After the official opening guests will have the opportunity to tour throughout the building. A sausage sizzle barbeque is planned for 11:30 for members of the public to enjoy.
During most of 2006 the building was completely refurbished and now offers its tenants modern, well lit office space.
DCM Director Stephanie McIntyre says, "The support of the Sisters of Compassion has been incredible and we're grateful for the security now of a long term tenancy with them".
"It's also a central location where many of our clients are able to access our services easily," she says.
Compassion House, painted in vibrant orange, red and blue is located at the end of Lukes Lane and accessed off Taranaki Street.
