Dog Owner Found
Guilty On Cruelty Charge
A Mangere woman has pleaded
guilty to an animal cruelty charge involving a dog with such
horrendous skin infections it had to be humanely euthanased.
After receiving a complaint, the Auckland SPCA found the tan shar pei cross to be in very poor condition with 90% hair loss to her body. Both of her eyes were so grossly infected and swollen she was unable to see.
Cherry Faulalo was prosecuted by the Auckland SPCA for failing to provide veterinary treatment for her dog. The dog had been suffering ulcerated eyes, severe mange and other secondary infections for several months.
Faulalo pleaded guilty to the charge brought under the Animal Welfare Act and was sentenced to one hundred hours of community service and ordered to pay reparations to the Auckland SPCA of $548.00.
Auckland SPCA Inspectorate Manager David Lloyd-Barker said that this was a particularly sad case as the dog concerned was in such a bad state that it had to be humanely euthanised due to this persons neglect. ”This dog’s death could have easily been prevented” he said.
