You can now find Downtown Community Ministry on Facebook and show you’re your support by becoming an online friend.
Facebook is one of the world’s fastest growing networking websites.
DCM Events and Communications Coordinator David Cross says, “Sites like Facebook show how interconnected our lives are. They effectively map our social and professional relationships. However, they also demonstrate the exclusion that society permits”.
One of the aims of Downtown Community Ministry is to
create a more inclusive world.
The housing first strategy employed by DCM works to include people by assisting them access the accommodation they need.
Project Margin Community Worker Alan Norman says,
“Once people are housed we can then begin to help them
address the issues that hold them back”.
He says,
“A lot of times this is reflected in requests to find work
or start some study.”
Most of Allan’s time is spent supporting people make the transition from the streets to a home they can call their own.
Mr Cross invites people wanting to support this important work to get in touch with DCM. They can use Facebook or DCM’s website www.dcm.org.nz to do this or through more conventional ways like calling on 384 7699.
