Voluntary sector asks for more communication with government
Nelson's community and voluntary sector is seeking to open up communication, as community groups pick up more of the roles once held by Government departments.
The CWTAS (Community Workers Training and Support) annual forum next Monday is on 'The Relationship between Your Organisation's Needs and Government's Vision and Policies'.
CWTAS Chair Penny Molnar says community organisations tackle difficult issues, from specific health needs to family violence, and they can feel isolated.
"It can sometimes be difficult to make the decision makers understand the real needs in the community and the resources needed to do the job," she said. "The needs that people actually face don't always fit with the policies of government and the funding that is allocated to deliver those policies."
Winnie Laban, Minister of Community and Voluntary Sector will present the Government's vision, community members will present local scenarios and government agency personnel will explain the policies.
This is a forum for all involved in community action whether that is board, committee, staff, or volunteers. There is no charge to attend the event and a free lunch is served, with the support of Fresh Choice Collingwood St.
