Homelessness in NZ – Read all about it

The first definitive perspective on homelessness, a critical issue for New Zealand’s social service agencies, has been released as an edition of Australian magazine, Parity.

It has been written by New Zealand social service organisations and government agencies providing for people experiencing this nationwide issue.

Parity magazine’s, Responding to Homelessness in New Zealand, includes a whopping 30 articles that cover definitions of homelessness, the role of local government, housing, frontline work and a plan for the future.

Officially released in December, but now available locally, the magazine provides an excellent insight into the research, policy and efforts seeking to address homelessness here in New Zealand.

Downtown Community Ministry Director Stephanie McIntyre authors an article titled,Wellington Needs a Wet House, that reports on her overseas travel last year to research Wet accommodation.

Other local contributors include, Wellington City Council, Sister Margaret Mary from the Compassion Centre, Clare Aspinall of Regional Public Health, Jak Wild of Community Alcohol and Drug Service, the Salvation Army Social Policy and Parliamentary Unit and Housing New Zealand.

Anyone interested can pick up a free copy of Parity by popping into the DCM offices any weekday during working hours.
