Auckland Central campaign building momentum over major parties

For most university students, the end of exams means party time. For Oliver Woods, however, it means getting into full swing for his campaign for the Auckland Central electorate electorate, with leaked internal National Party polling showing that he has an emerging base of support.

The 20 year old post-graduate university student is taking on incumbent Labour MP Judith Tizard and National newcomer Nikki Kaye in what is shaping up to be one of the country's most heated electoral contests.

Woods is standing for Residents Action Movement (RAM), which he has helped set up at a national level this year as one of the political party's two Candidates Co-Leaders. The party has grown to more than 3,000 members, and recently attracted national media attention with their petition to remove GST from food.

"Auckland Central is so important, with our retailers, hospitals, universities and transport hubs, and it really needs more effective representation than we're getting with the lackluster incumbent MP," says Woods.

Woods wants constituents to tell the country that they've had enough of centralist parties, which on his campaign blog at
http://aucklandcentral.blogspot.com he calls the 'LabNats'.

"The voices of ordinary Kiwis in one of the wealthiest electorates in the country are being ignored by the LabNats."

His campaign priorities make sure that Auckland's issues - such as public transport, safety and escalating living costs - are "at the top
of the agenda for New Zealand."

"There's no point in having universities if people can't afford to study, healthcare that can't adequately provide for people or public transport no one can afford."

"RAM's awesome policies like the first $10,000 of income tax free, free tertiary education and free and frequent public transport will benefit all Kiwis living in Auckland Central, not just big businesses in the CBD."

"My campaign is two ticks for RAM in Auckland Central - electorate vote for Oliver Woods and party vote for RAM."

"We are sending a message Wellington: put Auckland Central back on the map with a hard working MP!"
