Stance On Whaling
Sealord supports the New Zealand
Government’s call for whalers and anti-whaling protestors
to show restraint during whaling protests in Antarctic
waters this summer and would prefer it if a whaling fleet
were not there at all, says Sealord CEO Graham
Stuart.
“Sealord is opposed to whaling by any country and endorses the ongoing efforts of the New Zealand Government, and other Governments round the world, to find a diplomatic solution which will stop whaling.
“We respect the right to protest, but as experts in blue water fishing we are well aware of the potential for disaster if there is a confrontation in remote and inhospitable waters such as the Ross Sea. Â In that area damage to vessels can easily lead to death.
“We believe that an end to whaling is most likely to come through negotiations at Government-to-Government level and a change in public opinion in whaling nations.”
