Pulse Makes A Stand Against Domestic Violence

MEDIA RELEASE – 31 March 2009EMBARGOED UNTIL 5.30 PM

Pulse Makes A Stand Against Domestic Violence

The Central Pulse Netball Team continues its stand against domestic violence this year with a renewed commitment to raising awareness about the issue.

New Central Pulse coach, Yvette McCauseland-Durie said, “We will continue to work with Women’s Refuge and the It’s Not OK campaign as we did last year, however we have a new team, bringing lots of energy to the season and they are very enthusiastic about using their profile to reach even more people this year.”

She said, “We have a brilliant opportunity here to help support the message that family violence is not ok.”

Women’s Refuge Chief Executive, Heather Henare, said “The energy of the Central Pulse team is absolutely inspiring. Their willingness to promote this message makes them fantastic role models.”

“Domestic violence robs women of freedom, opportunity, visibility and joy. We are absolutely committed to turning that story around - and part of that is celebrating women who are living life to the full, determining their own futures.”

“The Pulse really embodies that positive outlook and we think their young fans will be very proud of the stand they are making against violence, on and off the court.”

The Central Pulse kicks off their 2009 season with a launch tonight at the Women’s Refuge National Office in Wellington.
