Call For Investigation Into Chrisco

Media Release:

Calls for Ministry of Consumer Affairs Investigation into Chrisco

Hampsta New Zealand Ltd (Hampsta) is asking for the Ministry of Consumer Affairs to investigate statements made by competitor Chrisco Hampers Ltd.

“Comments made by Chrisco founder Richard Bradley to TV3’s Campbell Live, along with published statements in Chrisco promotional material saying “that Chrisco customer payments are only deposited with major AAA rated banks” are misleading and potentially in breach of the Fair Trading Act” said Hampsta’s General Manager Gary Alway.ᾕ

“Hampsta has also learned of a complaint made to the Commerce Commission by Mr Darryl Evans of the Budgeting & Family Support Services about these statements and is concerned others may be inadvertently misled or deceived by them”.

“The New Zealand public need to have confidence in statements made by companies about their money and it would seem Chrisco has stepped well over the line saying that their bank “Westpac or ANZ” is AAA rated when it fact they are not – Raboplus bank is New Zealand’s only AAA rated bank,” said Mr Alway.

“Hampsta is very happy to compete with the market giant Chrisco, but seeks a fair and even playing field,” said Mr Alway, “so long as companies play by the rules set by the Fair Trading Act”.

“We believe there are solid grounds for the Ministry of Consumer Affairs to investigate Chrisco’s statements. At the end of the day New Zealand consumers should have faith in public comments that companies make to them”.
