Judicial Conduct Commissioner Sir David Gascoigne has confirmed receipt of a complaint about Supreme Court Judge, Justice Wilson, and has appointed former Australian Chief Justice, Hon Murray Gleeson, to assist him in further investigations.
“I am now undertaking an investigation into the basis of the complaint I have received,” Sir David said.
“In the past, the Commissioner has often sought advice from an independent senior lawyer. The present case is one of significant public importance. I believe it requires an adviser of high authority and standing who is not part of the New Zealand legal system.
“I have selected the Hon. Murray Gleeson for that purpose. Mr Gleeson was Chief Justice of Australia until 2008. His involvement will help to ensure the inquiry is independent, robust and fair”.
“I am not yet in a position to say when the investigation will be concluded, and it is inappropriate for me to comment further until it is”.
