Anne Tolley under attack on school food

Education Minister Anne Tolley continues to be attacked about her decision on 5 February 2009 to scrap the healthy food in schools guidelines with two stories in today’s media.

Healthy eating in schools - are we doing enough?
In a feature article, The Science Media Centre follows up the Minister’s announcement last year by asking organisations and health experts whether we are doing enough to encourage healthy eating in schools. They agree that we are not.

Stomach stapling, school lunches and hypocrisy

Stuff blogger, John Minto, accuses the Education Minister Anne Tolley of being a hypocrite. This follows the news that that she is one of four current MPs to have had a stomach-stapling operation. Minto notes that the Minister’s decision makes it harder for parents to help their children to eat healthy food. He makes the point that presumably the Minister had tried exercising and healthy eating to lose weight – and failed. While the Minister can afford to have the operation, most of us can’t.
