Youth Wings Reject Purchase Age Change
Youth Wings Reject Purchase Age
Change
Keep It 18 have today rejected claims made at a press conference, held at Parliament by prominent New Zealanders, that raising the purchase age for alcohol will reduce harm, but have invited participants to be involved in discussions about other proposed policies.
“There are problem-drinkers in every age group, and alcohol abuse is an issue we need to deal with across society, rather than simply singling out youth,” says group spokesperson Jenna Raeburn.
“We are pleased to see that the presentation to Parliament considered a range of policies and we urge all those in today’s presentation to support policies that target problem-drinkers rather than taking a blanket approach,” says Jenna Raeburn.
Keep It 18 is a joint campaign run by ACT on Campus, Young Greens, Young Labour and Young Nationals to oppose the raising of the alcohol purchase age to 20.
