Tuesday 27th July, 2010

Jos Mason lost her Husband Leon Mason, in April 2007 when four times recidivist drink driver Gordon Armstrong ploughed into Leon's and their friends Motorcycles, instantly killing Simon Short and Toni Dommerholt-Purchase.

Jos has campaigned for change ever since, and welcomes the changes from Government that target repeat offenders and youth drivers.

"I can see the changes to youth limits, will assist in creating a culture change for the future of drivers under 20" Jos Mason said, and further welcomed the spotlight on repeat offenders.

"Alcohol Interlocking devices alongside rehabilitation have shown a massive reduction in repeat episodes around the world, circumvention is extremely difficult with the technology available, of the utmost importance is to implement licensing, and sentence options legislation correctly to begin with, dealing with avoidance issues appropriately, and furthermore for the courts to enforce the sentencing options."

Jos Mason went on to say she is "stoked" the penalty for drink driving causing death is to be doubled.
"This is progess, finally a penalty that reflects the devastation and the loss of innocent lives caused by drink driving"

"The Inquest into my husband and friend's deaths is due in just over a week, nothing changes what's happened, nothing brings them back, but I am able to attend the Inquest - knowing I did all I could to prevent our situation happening to others, and their [Leon's, Simon's and Toni's lives were not a complete waste"
