Clendon residents to march against liquor laws
Clendon Residents to march in protest against liquor licensing laws.
Clendon Community marched in May 2007 and will march again. It will be a peaceful march and is endorsed by many community groups including the Manurewa Marae and Clendon businesses.
It will commence at 1pm, on Saturday, July 31st, at the Te Matariki Clendon Community Centre. 17 Palmers Road. Residents of the Manurewa community; mums, dads, children and youth are invited to join it.
Community groups have said that they, the residents should have the right to be consulted directly about whether liquor licence is granted especially for the area they live in.
Co-ordinator of the march, Waina Emery said, ‘there is much disappointment about the mishandling of the granting of this license and the fobbing off from one department to another about it’. She says ‘the license has been granted now from 8.00am to 10.00pm, seven days a week, what does that tell the community?’
