Put MMP to the Vote Co-Founder Deeply Saddened by Co-Founder’s Death
Put MMP to the Vote co-founder Peter Shirtcliffe today mourned the loss of friend, colleague and fellow Put MMP to the Vote co-founder Graeme Hunt who died yesterday at home in Auckland.
“Graeme was a very good friend of mine for whom I had the greatest respect and admiration, he will be very sorely missed by all who knew him well.
“He gave a huge amount of his time to our cause - pushing for an overhaul of the MMP electoral system – purely out of a passionate belief that New Zealand could do better than MMP.
“Next year’s referendum on MMP will be a milestone for our lobby and I’m deeply saddened that Graeme and I won’t get to see MMP put to the vote together. The lobby will feel this loss keenly, but it is my sincere hope that it will also galvanise our supporters. Graeme would want that” Mr Shirtcliffe said.
Mr Shirtcliffe offered sincere condolences to the Hunt family and said he would remember Mr Hunt as a kind, compassionate man of extraordinary intellect and indefatigable drive.
