Mayor’s concert for seniors a set up
Mayor’s concert for seniors a set up
Mayoral
candidate Bryan Pepperell is right to lodge a complaint with
the Wellington Electoral Office after Mayor Kerry
Prendergast organised a concert and afternoon tea for
seniors in the Town Hall today, just six days out from polls
closing, said Seann Paurini a Southern Ward candidate for
the Wellington City Council.
“Wellington voters
aren’t politically naïve and will see straight through
Mayor Prendergast’s blatant electioneering, considering
the event was held in November for the last three years,”
Seann Paurini says.
“I would encourage
Wellington’s senior citizens to question what Kerry
Prendergast has actually done for them during her three
terms as Mayor, and I would ask them to think carefully
before supporting her for a further three
years.”
One of the policies at the top of my list if
elected is a 24 hour, seven days per week mobility transport
service for senior folk and people with disabilities. Many
people in our city cannot access health care or a social
life because the private companies that run the taxi vans
charge too much and there are only six mobility vans
available in the region.
“When asked if she
supported my policy, Kerry Prendergast said it wasn’t a
priority. She seems more interested in the Rugby World Cup,
creating more super cities, allowing profit-making from car
parking to sky rocket, and working alongside Local
Government Minister Rodney Hide to ready our water for
privatisation.”
If Kerry Prendergast seriously cared
about seniors, then she’d do something about the many
people in this city who are unable to access life outside
their homes because of physical disability and fragility,”
concluded Seann
Paurini.
