Grey Power says stop building power stations we don’t need!

Bring back ripple control to make our power system more efficient and cut costs.

Genesis Energy’s new tariffs will make peak loads higher, so new peaking power stations will be needed. These power stations only run a few days per year, and use expensive gas or even diesel.

Tariffs are being simplified, but this makes our electricity system less efficient and therefore costs the Domestic Consumer more.

Grey Power rejects that policy! Domestic Consumers are paying for unnecessary new power stations, through their price rises.

Genesis’ new night rate is 79% higher than before. The new rate for controlled hot water is 23% higher. Genesis wants householders to move to a single pricing plan. This means they get little benefit from using more electricity at night and less at peak times.

Industry is phasing out use of ripple control to reduce peak loads. Smart meters could to the same job, better. But the new meters are dumb, not smart; they do not help people buy electricity when it is cheaper to supply.

Grey Power demands the industry use its assets more efficiently instead of building new power stations. Use the new meters smartly to bring back load control!
