Sir Don McKinnon welcomes appointment of Lt Gen Mateparae as new Governor-General
Interim Director of Auckland Museum and former Commonwealth Secretary-General Sir Don McKinnon today welcomed the appointment of Lt Gen Jerry Mateparae as the next Governor-General.
“He has been an excellent soldier, who I got to know in Bougainville during the peace process there. He is a very committed New Zealander. A person who has proved his worth throughout his long and distinguished service in the Armed Forces. I can’t think of a better person to take up this role, and I wish him and his family my congratulations and best wishes.”
