Governor-General Welcomes His Successor
The Governor-General Rt Hon Sir Anand Satyanand, today warmly applauded the appointment of his successor-designate, Lieutenant-General Jerry Mateparae.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II had earlier announced approval of the appointment of General Mateparae as New Zealand's next Governor-General with effect from 31 August 2011.
"Jerry Mateparae, with whom I have had considerable contact, is an excellent choice. His record of leadership with the New Zealand Defence Force at a time of considerable change is distinguished and he will bring many fine qualities to the role of Governor-General".
Sir Anand will complete his five year term on 23 August 2011.
