MPs discuss trade and opportunities for New Zealand with Mexican counterparts

A delegation from the New Zealand Parliament has completed a successful visit to the National Assembly of Mexico. The delegation, lead by Hon Pete Hodgson, met with members of the Mexican Congress and Senate as well as representatives of the Mexican Human Rights Commission, and the United Nations Development Programme.

Trade was a particular focus for discussions and the delegation also met with representatives of New Zealand business operating in Mexico. Hon Pete Hodgson said that Mexico has considerable potential as a trading partner. “Mexico has a population of 110 million, is very keen to expand its overseas trade, and has a warm relationship with New Zealand. Predictions are that by 2030 Mexico’s economy will be the fifth largest in the World and this represents a good opportunity for New Zealand business.

The delegation, which comprises Hon Pete Hodgson and Su’a William Sio, is now in Panama attending the 124th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly.
