Hands off Pharmac
Grey Power strongly supports the current system of purchasing state provided pharmaceuticals through Pharmac said national President Roy Reid.
Any interference in the process by American drug company interests will not be tolerated he said.
Pharmac have saved the country millions of dollars over many years and provided affordable medicines for the general public.
In the 2010 financial year alone $937 million was saved.
Mr Reid said it was not just about savings but providing affordable effective medicine at an overall cost the country can afford.
He said in the 2010 financial year Pharmac funded 20 new medicines, and looking at good value medicines that provide overall health gains was vital.
The national Grey Power Board at its meeting in Auckland today unanimously endorsed the Presidents statement.
Mr. Reid said that he was confident that the 70,000 strong membership would support this approach.
