Update: Canadian Boat to Gaza
Update: Canadian Boat to Gaza
6 July 2011
Following on from yesterday's news of the seizure of the Tahrir by the Greek coastguard, here is an update from the Canadian Boat to Gaza team.
Good news to report. Michael Coleman and Soha Kneen have been released from custody and are told they will appear in court tomorrow and will receive suspended sentences. Sandra Ruch has also been released.
She will appear in court tomorrow and faces the charge of allowing the boat to leave port without proper authorization. Our team of lawyers is working closely with everyone involved.
The rest of the passengers of the Tahrir have all been released without charges and the boat has been returned to our care and custody. When we spoke to them on the phone moments ago, everyone was in good spirits and heading to the pier to have dinner together.
Photos of the coastguard boarding Tahrir are available at http://www.tahrir.ca/node/1976 and there is a video at http://www.tahrir.ca/content/video-boarding-tahrir-04-07-2011
