NZCOM Responds to North and South Editor
The following can be attributed to Karen Guilliland, CEO of the NZ College of Midwives:
“The front cover of this magazine is so disturbing and we received so many calls from concerned midwives and health professionals, we felt it necessary to respond immediately.
We have not “sidestepped” the claims made in the article, as the editor claims. We were not, and are still not prepared to refer to the actual story as a number of inaccuracies will require us to take some time to respond to – our response will be supported of course by robust and peer reviewed research; something the article sadly lacked.
It is totally irrelevant that the image on the cover is “stylised”; it depicts a baby being held upside-down and we reject the claim by the magazine editor that it is “clearly a mocked-up “concept cover””.
