Selwyn Assets staff receive national recognition
“A real team effort” earned Selwyn District Council Assets staff national recognition and a spot of afternoon tea at the Council offices in Rolleston yesterday.
The President and Chief Executive of Ingenium, a national organisation representing engineers responsible for public assets, visited Rolleston to present staff with an award for their work during the recent earthquake events.
President Neil Cook said he was thrilled that his first opportunity to meet members in person after being elected was during a visit to Selwyn District.
“All the talk’s been about the Red Zone. We’re very aware that you’ve also been going through a lot and possibly have more pressing resource issues with smaller crews to take up the reins,” he said.
The devastating effects of the earthquake were still very much on people’s minds around the country, he added.
Ingenium Chief Executive Ross Vincent invited Council staff to submit papers for next year’s Ingenium conference “Rebuilding the Dream”.
“It’s important you record your experiences for other people to learn from,” he said.
SDC Assets Delivery Manager Ray Anderson congratulated his staff for their “real team effort” that was carrying over into recovery work. After the award presentation, the team shared afternoon tea with the Ingenium visitors.
