Who Should Provide Breakfast for School Kids?
When children turn up at school without having had breakfast, we might criticise the parents -- but do nothing further. Or we could acknowledge that, no matter who is to blame, the kids need feeding – and then feed them.
Either way, we ought to stand back and take a long range view – more than the triennial electoral scratching of issues – and ask what future payoff there might be from better health, better education and reduced crime.
This is the opinion of the Child Poverty Action Group. Next week's guest In Conversation with Noel Cheer will be their housing and social policy analyst, Alan Johnson.
