Alliance offers support to locked out CMP workers
Alliance offers support and solidarity to locked out CMP workers
Alliance Party media release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Monday 21 November 2011
The Alliance Party has offered its support to locked out meat workers at the CMP plant in Marton.
Alliance Party industrial spokesperson Trevor Hanson says the locked out workers are standing up for basic conditions and rights.
"What we need to understand is that there is no bottom line for the multinational employers. They will drive down wages if they can to below poverty level."
The Alliance had contributed a small donation and was asking its members and all working people to support the locked out workers.
"We applaud the strong stance on the dispute taken by the meat workers, and the backing offered by the CTU and other major New Zealand unions."
With continued community support, the workers would win, he says.
Mr Hanson is the former General Secretary of the Maritime Union and the New Zealand Waterfront Workers Union.
CMP, a subsidiary of global multinational ANZCO Foods, has locked out 111 workers at its plant in Marton, in order to force them to sign off on pay cuts of between 20 - 30% and unacceptable changes to terms and conditions.
