Grey Power on Digital TV
Grey Power on Digital TV
The “Going Digital Assistance Package” announced by the Minister of Broadcasting is “a step in the right direction” says Mr Roy Reid, National President of Grey Power.
The package will help elderly people over 75 on fixed incomes, invalids and veterans make the transition to digital by providing a set-top box, aerial or dish and installation, training and technical support.
“We support the government’s Targeted Assistance Package as the benefits of digital TV to NZ will outweigh these initial costs. We are however concerned that the 65 to 75 age group are being overlooked. Many of these elderly are also on fixed incomes and the costs will inhibit their ability to have their TV’s go digital. Grey Power notes that the mobile phone network is also going digital, making many mobile phones obsolete. We are working with Telecom to see what steps can be taken to assist elders in this area,” said Mr Reid.
