Kaipara Petition insists ‘No sweeping under the carpet’
Kaipara Petition insists ‘No sweeping under the carpet’
Ratepayers in Kaipara District realize there are some high hurdles to jump over in dealing with a huge debt burden, but they are not prepared to gloss over the possible illegalities that have given rise to the debt. KCRA is about to launch a Petition that seeks to ensure that the Commissioners who will shortly be taking over the running of the Council pay keen attention to the actions of Council over recent years.
The majority of debt has arisen from installation of the Mangawhai Waste Water Scheme, but there are other projects that also require investigation.
Ratepayers are fearful of unaffordable rates rises that will stem from the likely adoption of the Council's Long Term Plan, and say these will go dramatically against the Government’s wishes to keep rises within reasonable bounds.
The petition is expected to be up and running within the week.
