Notice of hearing for the reassessment of antifouling paints
Tuesday 7 May 2013
A hearing will be held in Auckland on an application to reassess a group of substances approved for use as antifouling paints in New Zealand.
The application, made by the Environmental Protection Authority, is to reassess a group of antifouling paints that are used to prevent the build-up of microorganisms, plants and algae (biofoul) on submerged surfaces, such as the hulls of boats.
The hearing will be held on Tuesday 21 May and Wednesday 22 May 2013 in Elliott Room 2 and 3, 128 Albert Street, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Auckland, starting at 10 am each day.
A full hearing schedule is available on the EPA’s website.
Following a public consultation period, the EPA considered information received in submissions and revised some of the information contained in its original application. An explanation of these revisions is contained in an Evaluation and Review Report.
The application, supporting documents and public submissions can also be found on the EPA’s website.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the hearing, but only those who have made a submission on the application can address the hearing.
A decision on the reassessment will be made by an expert Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) decision-making committee, which will consider the application, public submissions and any other evidence presented to it during the consultation process, including during the hearings.
