Queer Avengers targeting McDonalds Manners
Mall
Wellington's Queer Avengers are holding an action
in solidarity with McDonalds workers tonight, 5:30pm at
Manners Mall McDonald's. The action is part of the Turn
McDonald's Gay Day called by Unite Auckland.
Auckland
McDonalds worker Sean Bailey was told to not "act gay" by a
bullying McDonalds manager. Last night, picketers in
Auckland were assaulted by security.
"Homophobia is just
part of the McDonald's management arsenal," says Queer
Avenger Ian Anderson. "Attacks on McDonald's workers are an
attack on us all. Their decision to stand up for better
wages and conditions, and against homophobic and bullying
behaviour, is an inspiration."
The Queer Avengers will be
turning the Manners Mall branch into a queer space, in
solidarity with McDonald's
workers.
