Budget 2013: Housing intervention needed
The radical move by the central government to conditionally take over approving housing resource consents reinforces the Chamber’s recent calls for action to address Auckland’s housing shortage.
Michael Barnett, head of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce says “The Auckland housing shortage has been building over the last ten years.”
“In recent months it has become very clear a circuit breaker was needed to lift the Auckland house-build rate to meet population growth rates.”
“This measure should send a strong message to local government to start making decisions and if they don’t someone else will step in to get things moving.”
