SEANZ Welcomes Political Support for Distributed Generation
Auckland, 08 October 2013 – The Sustainable Electricity Association of New Zealand (SEANZ) today welcomed the Green Party’s clean energy proposals, designed to drive the uptake of distributed generation and help New Zealand meet its 90% renewable 2025 target.
Brendan Winitana, Chairman of SEANZ says that while New Zealand’s solar energy sector is growing rapidly, more could be done to encourage even faster growth.
“Policy like that proposed by the Greens will help remove uncertainty and make it more attractive for home and business owners to install solar panels.
“Increased distributed generation (DG) has many benefits for New Zealand and New Zealanders. From reducing future spend on new hydro dams – which could save hundreds of millions to the environmental benefit of not having to rely as much on oil and coal fired generation, together with lower overall power costs for the DG owner.
“Any initiative that encourages investment in DG gets the full support of SEANZ.”
