Dirty Tactics to Shut out Green Cabs

Striking Taxi Drivers Employ Dirty Tactics to Shut out Green Cabs.

A taxi war may be on the verge of breaking out after Taxi drivers who went on strike last week at Auckland Airport have begun a concerted effort to shut out other drivers on dedicated stands at the Airport’s domestic terminal.

Unhappy with the amount of work they receive from their stand they have turned their attention to Green Cabs Drivers who they say are favoured by the Airport and receive more work.

Drivers we spoke to on condition of anonymity say they have started directing customers to the front cars in their rank with the use of hand signals and are standing in positions designed to block customers from accessing Green Cabs rank.

When asked why the felt Green Cabs drivers were taking their work they responded by saying the company had better branding and lower fares.
A comparison of fares between the taxi companies showed a noticeable difference between companies on the free flow rank who’s per kilometer rates ranged from $2.99 to $3.25 and Green Cabs who have a much lower per km rate of $2.65. An estimation of a standard fare from Auckland Airport to Auckland CBD showed a difference of up to $20 between the free flow companies and Green Cabs fares.
We approached Green Cabs Ltd for comment. The representative we spoke too stated that they were very concerned by the developments but were unable to comment further as their contract with Auckland Airport prohibits them from doing so.
