“Go” decision on Central Rail Link – “The right call”
Auckland Council’s budget committee decision to support an early start to the City Rail Link is welcomed by Auckland Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber of Commerce head Michael Barnett said delaying the project would have taken Auckland back to the bad old days when critical transport infrastructure investment decisions were delayed for years, and which we are now paying for in higher construction costs, worse congestion and a ‘catch up’ infrastructure programme that is struggling to keep up with the demands of the City’s high growth.
“The bottom line of CRL is that it is an urban transformation project and enabling investment confidence in the vitally-needed private sector property developments we need to get on with urgency.”
“That we are continuing to debate CRL, shows we need to clearly tell the story of why we are doing the project,” he said.
