Private Members' Bill supported by Cannabis Party

A plan for a Private Members' Bill regarding medical cannabis is welcomed by the Cannabis Party, who say urgent action is needed in the case of Alex Renton.

Cannabis Party health spokesman Alistair Gregory said he attended a peaceful protest yesterday outside Wellington Regional Hospital to support the Renton Family who want to treat their son with CBD oil.

Alex's mother Rose, Labour MP Damien O'Connor and Mr Gregory all called on Associate Health minister Peter Dunne to allow Alex to access medicinal cannabis.

"I want to stress the urgency of this matter in the hope that it will inspire prompt action," Mr Gregory said.

"I totally support Mr O'Connor's proposal for a Private Members' Bill to relax medical cannabis laws. However, that could take months or years to pass through Parliament. Sativex is available now and would be suitable for Mr Renton in the meantime."

John Key said he has not seen any advice yet from his chief science adviser that he should take a broader view on medical marijuana.

The Cannabis Party want to know why Professor Sir Peter Gluckman has not informed the Prime Minister about the science of medical cannabinoids?
