Follow-up report on drink-driving enforcement published
The New Zealand Auditor-General today published a report that follows up on New Zealand Police’s progress with effectively and efficiently enforcing drink-driving laws. This report provides a “snapshot” of the progress made by the Police in addressing the recommendation in our 2013 report New Zealand Police: Enforcing drink-driving laws.
Since our 2013 report, the Police have taken some important steps to improve their assessment of the effectiveness of how they enforce drink-driving laws. The Police have further work to do to fully implement these improvements, and we encourage them to see the improvements through.
The Police have also made other procedural improvements. These include introducing new equipment to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of breath testing and processing of offenders.
Please note that our staff are now blogging about their work at auditblog, and we have Twitter andFacebook accounts that you can follow.
