Cuba - the Stones, Obama & the future
Cuba - the Stones, Obama & the future
Yexenia
Calzado, a young Cuban will speak [Tuesday week, April 26th]
to Wellingtonians on how she sees the future for her
homeland now relations with Cubans near neighbour, America,
seem to be on the improve.
She sees encouraging noises, but also is aware that Obama has yet to promise that Congress will lift the economic blockade. She still has great problems even paying for her travel as American based financial institutions seem to have a stranglehold on so many international transactions apparently not routed through America. Thousands of the New Zealanders wanting to visit Cuba face similar problems [taking sterling in cash is advised].
As an officer of ICAP [the Instituto Cubano de Amistad con los Pueblos] which is responsible for fostering goodwill amongst people throughout the world she sees Cuba’s efforts in helping , for example, with doctors [both directly and via training]in the South Pacific as really important.
