Save the Children welcomes Judge Becroft’s appointment as the new Children’s Commissioner

Judge Becroft is well known in communities across New Zealand for his focus on what is important: the best interest of the child. His approach to child protection and restorative juvenile justice is an inspiration locally as well as internationally.

“A staunch advocate for children and youth has been appointed custodian of children’s rights at a time when our care system is being overhauled,” says Heather Hayden CEO of Save the Children.

“There is little doubt that we need a sound national child protection system, but it’s equally important that the implementation and monitoring of our policies, laws and practices are effective. Judge Becroft is the right person to take this work forward.”

“As advocates for the interests, rights and wellbeing of children in New Zealand as well as other parts of the world we fully support the Commissioner’s work in helping vulnerable young Kiwi children. Save the Children’s mission is to create lasting change by making sure children are healthy, protected and have the opportunity to learn.”
