Women's Refuge pleased about additional funding for the sexual violence sector
Women’s Refuge is pleased at the government’s announcement of an additional $40 million in funding for the sexual violence sector over the next four years.
“This sector more than any has tried to reach out to, respond and help to heal victims of sexual violence for many years under significant financial pressure. The announcement today should help to ensure that quality services continue to be provided to victims, especially in the period immediately following report of a crime of sexual violence,” says Chief Executive of Women’s Refuge Dr Ang Jury.
“Alongside my congratulations to the Minister for this demonstration of commitment to the sector I would also add my hope that the expertise of those within the sexual violence sector will be utilised by government to ensure that the distribution of the announced funding is done in an effective and equitable way that best meets the ongoing needs of those seeking help”
