We must stop blaming foreigners – ACT Party leader
“We are a free-trading liberal democracy which is enriched by our interactions with foreigners,” says ACT Party leader David Seymour.
Speaking on TV One’s Q+A programme he told Corin Dann “either we take the approach that we’re going to blame the foreigners, we’re going to put up the walls, we now oppose trade. That’s the option of the Green Party, New Zealand First and the Labour Party, who I regard as New Zealand’s Trump movement.”
“The other alternative is to say, ‘Well, hang on a second. What are the things that we can do better at home?’ And speaking of homes, you know, the problem with the Auckland housing market is that Auckland has built 50,000 homes in the 1990s and only 40,000 in the past decade.”
On the soon to be released Auckland Unitary Plan Mr Seymour said intensification is going to cause a real concern particularly for his Epsom Electorate who he represents.
“Concerns about congestion, about community character and about school zones. But people overwhelmingly are in favour or at least have accepted that the centre of the city is going to become denser. I think the plan is going to have to address those three concerns I just raised.”
