he Auditor-General’s Draft annual plan 2017/18 was presented to the House of Representatives today.

The Auditor-General is required to consult the House of Representatives each year on a draft annual plan that describes the Office’s proposed annual work programme. This consultation helps to ensure that the Office’s work will be relevant and useful to Parliament, public entities, and the public.

This proposed programme of work aligns with the Auditor-General’s ambition to ensure that the Office is strongly positioned to continue influencing and promoting an effective, efficient, and accountable public sector, now and in the future.

The proposed theme for the Office’s 2017/18 work programme is Water. This theme reflects Parliament’s and New Zealanders’ growing interest in water. Public entities play critical roles as policy makers, regulators, and service providers in relation to water. With our overview of the entire public sector, we are well placed to examine how effectively these responsibilities for water are being managed by public entities.

The Auditor-General will consider any feedback from select committees, public entities or the public on our draft annual plan and incorporate it as appropriate in our final Annual Plan 2017/18, which will be published before the end of June 2017.
