Press Statement On Terror Acts in New Zealand
The Federation of Indian Muslims (FIM) is deeply saddened on the recent mosque shooting incidents which happened on 15 March 2019 at Christchurch, New Zealand.
FIM condemns the heinous attacks on the mosque in Christchurch which has claimed 49 lives and seriously injuring 40 others. This senseless acts of violence is against everything that Islam stands for, as a religion of peace. Islam calls for peace and harmonious relations between mankind, and even forbids attacks on non-Muslims place for worship, needless to mention attacks on mosques.
Muslims in Singapore appreciate the harmony that has been nurtured between our different races and religions. With that, extremist, radical or any ideology which sow hatred and disharmony must never be allowed to seed in our society. This latest incident shows that the threat of terrorism is far from over. Singapore has been safe thus far, thanks to the efforts of the authorities.
Nonetheless, we have to always be vigilant and work hand in hand with the authorities to keep our Singapore safe. This was emphasised by Minister Shanmugam too previously on terrorism where he mentioned that it was a matter of “when “and not if” a terror attack hits Singapore.
FIM will ensure that all our
communities live together harmoniously in Singapore. FIM
stands together in prayers for our affected fellow Muslims
in New Zealand and prays for our communities to always
remain united and stand together.
