Update: ‘Free-range’ chicken, a cruel con for caring Kiwis
Footage released by SAFE this week showed dead and
dying chickens in an Auckland chicken farm, that advertises
it’s meat as free range. Despite claiming to be a
free-range farm, only a tiny proportion of these birds are
able to make it outside.
The Ministry for Primary Industries and the head of the Poultry Industry Association, Michael Brooks claim that the footage is historical, but SAFE can confirm this footage was captured between November 2018 and February 2019.
Monday’s footage showed two chickens stuck on their backs, which were in fact rescued as they would have died otherwise, and taken to a sanctuary.
