People's Bid launched for no more oil and gas permits
10 May 2019
"After the government's announcement
last week opening up new onshore oil and gas permits,
Climate Justice Taranaki launched a People's Bid yesterday
at the Just Transition Summit to bid for all the permit
blocks and halt fossil fuel exploration until the climate
crisis can be averted." said Climate Justice Taranaki
spokesperson Urs Signer.
"In a few months the Crown Minerals Act will be up for another review and it may be possible to legislate against any new onshore permits. It is clear from the text of the new Zero Carbon Bill and from Prime Minister Adern and Energy Minister Wood's comments yesterday that they will not push for change until the community makes them. So the pressure is on to encourage those who are concerned about our country's emissions to take a stand, participate in these parliamentary processes and call for a halt on exploration permits of all fossil fuels in Aotearoa." said Signer.
'The People's Bid' has already garnered 650 signatures in just over 24 hours. The link for it can be found here:
