Cannabis Referendum 2020 – Voting No? Think Again

Specialist criminal defence firm LawAid International brings decades of in-court experience to the debate around Cannabis law reform, arguing strongly for legalisation and asking the undecided and those voting ‘No’ in September’s referendum to think again.

Barrister and Head of Chambers Craig Tuck has specialised in criminal justice for more than 30 years. He has successfully taken cases against the New Zealand Police, Corrections and the Ministry for Justice.

Craig has acted on high-profile cases here and internationally (including as part of Julian Assange’s global legal team), with a focus on defending serious drug charges.

  • Voting “No” in the upcoming referendum – missing our opportunity to overturn 45 years of failed cannabis laws? Think again.
  • Voting “No” to legalising personal use - perpetuating the cycle of injustice for those few who fall foul of the current laws? Think again.
  • Voting “No” to a brave new world - failing to reject the racist, profiteering rhetoric that rendered cannabis illegal to begin with? Think again.
  • Voting “No” – depriving our stressed economy of hundreds of millions of dollars in much-needed cost-savings and new revenue? Think again.
  • Voting “No” - despite alcohol’s obvious and egregiously more-devastating affect on our communities? Think again.
  • Voting “No” - while Kiwis continue to die and fill hospital waiting rooms after smoking laboratory-invented synthetic cannabis? Think again.
  • Finally, are you thinking of voting “No” – preferring the paternalistic and old-fashioned imposition of Government telling its people what to do? Think again.

Still thinking? Vote “Yes”. Dare to make the right decision. For once, it’s your choice.

Gordon Campbell: On Dune 2, And Images Of Islam

Depictions of Islam in Western popular culture have rarely been positive, even before 9/11. Any number of movie examples come to mind, beginning with Rudolf Valentino’s role (over a century ago) as the romantic Arab hero in The Sheik...
