Mothers Against GE Group Completely Careless

The Mothers Against GE group has shown itself to be completely careless of the real interests of mothers with its irresponsible and reprehensible call for a boycott on all infant soy products, the Chairman of the LSN Dr William Rolleston said today.

“Many families whose children show an intolerance to cow’s milk have been advised by their doctors to switch to soy based formulas, for some the intolerance is so severe they have even been prescribed soy formula.

“To scare these people about a product which is safe is outrageous.

“GM soy has been extensively tested by responsible authorities in many countries and has been found to be totally safe for human consumption. The GM soy products are as safe as the non-GM soy products which are also on the market.

“There should be some power for the food safety people in New Zealand to stop organisations like MaDGE creating fear and uncertainty in the community and wilfully exposing the dairy intolerant children to health risks.

“MaDGE shows its true colours when it tries to manipulate the mothers of New Zealand to its political ends.

“Families which use infant soy products that may contain minute quantities of GM soy should consult their doctor if they need reassurance that their infant formula is safe for their child,” concluded Dr Rolleston.
