Bio Dynamic Farming & Gardening Assoc. Research

Press Release from the Bio Dynamic Farming and Gardening Association
The third and last updated report reviewing organic land management research is now available. As well as a comprehensive section on soil management, there is a section on international organic dairy pasture management research, which concluded that there are still many research questions that need to be explored in a New Zealand context. A review of organic orchard management revealed useful research such as that on apple production by the Louis Bolk Institute in Holland. It emphasised the importance of research in a whole farm context in New Zealand.
The importance of developing new methodology for research to service organic farmers is emphasised and development of producer oriented site-specific practical research in New Zealand is recommended. This research approach is being pioneered by European research centres.
The report, produced by the Research and Development Group of the Biodynamic Association, can be viewed and downloaded from the website www.biodynamic.org.nz and is available as a hard copy from the Bio Dynamic Farming and Gardening Association PO Box 39045, Wellington Mail Centre, Fax +64-4-589 5365 Email: info@biodynamic.org.nz
The report is particularly relevant for farmers, scientists and policy makers who want more information about organic dairy pasture and orchard soil management.
The Bio Dynamic Association gratefully acknowledges the funding provided by the Ministry for the Environment's Sustainable Management Fund, Dexcel and the Tindall Foundation, and the contributions and help from scientists from several research institutions.
