IRL funded to deliver more benefits to New Zealan

Media release
18 July 2007

IRL funded to deliver more benefits to New Zealand

The importance of Industrial Research Ltd's (IRL) research to New Zealand is reflected in the excellent results that IRL has received in funding from the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology today.

"The scientists, engineers and technicians at IRL are responsible for much of this country's great research and science, delivering results to industry that translate into tangible economic outcomes for New Zealand," said Shaun Coffey, Chief Executive, IRL.

"In total we have received investment as a result of contestable bids of just over $8 million this year and subsequent years as allocated, for 12 projects ranging in duration from two to six years."

"IRL worked hard to put forward 15 strong proposals for funding and has been rewarded with an 80% success rate in investment approved, with the remaining three proposals rated as fundable but unsuccessful in this round due to resourcing limitations."

"I'm proud of the achievements of my staff."

"Overall, total investment secured by IRL, including negotiated investments, is $13.25m which represents a 15% increase on this year's maturing investment."

"This funding from the Foundation reinforces the national role of IRL as a key driver of economic transformation in New Zealand," said Shaun Coffey.

The following is a list of IRL projects which were successful in this funding round.
